Some indie bands have been incorporating retro elements to their music, and with great success. One style which has been resurging periodically is roaring surf music, and one band has been on top of this for quite some time. Though they really never hit it huge outside of SoCal, The Ziggens are just as much masters of surf guitar as the true progenitor, Dick Dale.

The Ziggens were best known for their friendship and relationship with household giants Sublime. Check out their ripping tune, “Outside,” and try not to muster up images of busted surf boards, spy flicks and noir pistols being brandished. This is one of my favorite songs of all time:

While there is no publicly available release date, I’ve just confirmed from a source at Dogfish Head that a beer is in the works named: Faithfull Ale, to mark the twentieth anniversary of Pearl Jam and their album Ten. You’ve heard of Pearl Jam, right?

In the same collaborative efforts as the ode to Miles Davis with Bitches Brew and the recently released Hellhound On My Ale – a commemoration to the 100th birthday of Robert Johnson, Faithfull Ale is a Belgian-style Golden Ale being brewed with currants and is slated to weigh in at 7%.
